Stuart made a new feeder for the bird fat and the Pileated Woodpecker has been coming regularly to feed on it.
If you've never seen one,these are massive,the size of a parrot!
Unfortunately it normally comes early or late....neither are good are taking pictures.
Not today !
I managed to open the door and snap a few before it flew off......
It's a shame it's crest wasn't up,not to worry,I'm just pleased I got a relatively focused shot !!
Check out those claws !
This is the woodpecker that 'Woody woodpecker' is based on.......useless fact for today :)

wow wee what a fantastic shot ruth and what a huge bird! i've never seen one of those.
Great shot Ruth! I've had the pleasure to see one for a short moment at home a couple of years ago. They are indeed huge! And they make a lot of noise. That's how we were able to spot him in our crabtree in front of the house.
